modi_intakeKathmandu: Nepal Electricity Authority has shut down Modi Khola Hydro Electricity project (14.8 MW) to conduct maintenance work for three days.Though the total expected annual electricity is 92 GWh, the leakage from head works, doors and problems in the retaining walls has resulted in low generation of electricity due to choke in the trash rack since the last twelve years. Civil Works in charge Dhruba Kumar Upreti said they have started refurbishing the trash rack and will repair the head works and retaining walls in the next three days. NEA has earmarked Rs 320 million for the upkeep of the project. The current maintenance will only disturb generation for three days and its volume will improve thereafter, added Upreti. Machines will be repaired. Waste and sedimentation in the riverbed affect river projects due to unsafe upstream developmental works.
