KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 15 : Newly appointed Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Kulman Ghising took charge of the ministry on Monday.

His first policy decision was to recover outstanding payments from dedicated and trunk power lines. After being sworn in earlier in the day, Ghising visited the families of those killed during recent protests at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital before heading to Singha Durbar to assume office. He also announced that he would not accept traditional garlands, scarves, or vermilion powder during official events.

The move to collect unpaid dues carries special significance for Ghising. He was previously removed as managing director of the Nepal Electricity Authority after a dispute with then–prime minister KP Sharma Oli over the same issue.

Hitendra Dev Shakya is currently serving as the Managing director of the Nepal Electricity Authority.
