Govt. to develop Budhi Ganga hydel, cost Rs. 5 billion

    budhi-gagkaThe government is to develop the much-awaited Budhiganga Hydel Project on its own initiative.

    The project in Achham district in far western Nepal will be developed by Department of Electricity Development. Saudi Development Fund and Kuwait Development Fund have made commitment for the 20 mw project.

    KDF has agreed to invest 18 million US dollars and Saudi Development Fund is to sign bilateral agreement for 30 million US dollars, said Department’s Information Office Gokarnaraj Pantha.

    The total cost will be 5.335 billion rupees (55 million US dollars) and the rest seven million US dollars will be invested by the government.

    The government has given responsibility of project chief to Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Energy Nawinraj Singh.

    The preliminary works of the project will begin from next year. The government has taken initiative to complete it as a pilot project as the private sector projects could not gain momentum.However, there is still debate whether the regulatory body itself can build the project.
