Four hydropower projects get generation licenses

    KATHMANDU: The Department of Electricity Development (DoED) has issued generation licenses to four hydropower projects — Kabeli B-1(25 MW), Upper Khoranga Khola (6.8 MW), Upper Solu Khola (18 MW) and Hewa Khola (9.5 MW).

    These projects have combined installed capacity of 59.3 MW. With these new projects, the number of hydropower projects with generation licenses has reached 69. They have combined installed capacity of 1,975 MW, according to DoED.

    Kathmandu, July 26: The government has given permission to Lower Hewa Khola Hydropower Project to generate electricity.

    The government has given the license for electricity production to the project on Thursday, said Information officer at the Department of the Electricity Development, Gokarnaraj Pantha. The project has a capacity to generate 9.5 MW.

    The project site is in Taplejung district and Mountain Hydropower Limited is going to construct the project.

    The project is going to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 1.50 billion. The Department has also directed the construction company to start the construction by collecting funds within the current fiscal year.

    Similarly, the government has also given permission to different 69 projects for electricity production.The capacity of the projects is to generate 1,975 MW of electricity in total.

    Pantha said that they have directed all the projects to start works by collecting funds immediately.
