The Power Summit 2019 kicked off in the capital on Thrusday

Nov 21, 2019: Inaugurating the two-day conference, Minister for Energy, Water Resource and Irrigation Barsha Man Pun said that the time is ripe for investment in energy sector. The minister also said that the government is committed to protect the investment made in this sector.

He also pointed out to the fact that energy generation is vital for economic prosperity.

“There is a need to explore market in India and Bangladesh to export electricity produced in Nepal. The country can attain sustainable development if it is able to sell electricity to the neighbouring countries,” said Pun.

Participants from Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China among others are attending the two-day summit underway in the capital.

Electricity trade is reportedly the major agenda of the summit organised by the Independent Power Producers Association of Nepal (IPPAN). The conference will conclude on Friday, November 22.

President of IPPAN Shailendra Guragain said that the summit will help Nepal find market for electricity.

“Development is not possible without electricity,” said Guragain.
