Kathmandu: As the 24th Annual General Meeting and 8th Convention of the Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (IPPAN) draws closer, efforts to elect the new leadership through consensus have intensified. A new initiative has been launched within the organization to forge agreement at a time when various legal and non-legal debates surrounding the convention and proposed statute amendments, scheduled for June 12, 2026, are being publicly discussed in the media.
IPPAN Senior Vice President Mohan Kumar Dangi has proposed the formation of a five-member committee to facilitate the selection of a consensus-based leadership, setting aside all disputes and differing arguments in the interest of the organization’s unity and welfare. According to Dangi, previous attempts by both the current president and himself—jointly and individually—to achieve consensus have not yet been successful. Emphasizing that agreement, rather than an election, is the best option for strengthening the institution, he has suggested a final effort through a group comprising five senior figures.
The proposed committee would include Dangi himself, current IPPAN President Ganesh Karki, Vice President Ram Prasad Acharya (who is not contesting due to age limitations), former President and Chief Advisor Krishna Prasad Acharya, who has remained actively involved in the current executive committee, and former President Shailendra Guragain.
Dangi has urged all stakeholders to play a constructive role in electing IPPAN’s leadership unanimously, in line with the collective aspirations of energy entrepreneurs, advisors, and industry experts.
