The long-awaited Budhigandaki Reservoir Hydropower Project, with a capacity of 1,200 megawatts, has entered the preparation phase. Sources have indicated that the project’s investment structure has reached its final stage, and now it is awaiting approval from the Cabinet.
Once approval is granted by the Cabinet, construction of the project is expected to begin soon. As a national pride project, the Budhigandaki Reservoir Project is believed to make a significant contribution not only to energy security but also to irrigation, flood control, and industrial development.
The government has intensified efforts to finalize the investment modality, which has been under debate for a long time. Once construction of the project begins, the country’s energy production capacity is expected to increase significantly, while dependence on imported energy is anticipated to decrease.
