Arun-3 Project Issues to Be Addressed Under Project Development Agreement

Kathmandu — An agreement has been reached to address the issues that have arisen in the Arun-3 Hydropower Project. The Investment Board, the developer company SAPDC, the District Coordination Committee, the concerned local levels, and the District Development Administration Office have decided, through mutual coordination, to address the various questions raised regarding the project, taking into account the provisions of the project development agreement.

The decision was made based on the discussions and suggestions with stakeholders held on Tuesday in Khandbari, Sankhuwasabha district. Similarly, under the provisions of the Project Development Agreement, it was decided that the developer will prepare and submit a list of programs implemented under the local benefit-sharing scheme, and the Project Coordination Committee will monitor their effectiveness.

In the meeting, it was also agreed that the Project Coordination Committee, in coordination with the concerned local levels, will prepare a list of tasks to be carried out under the local benefit-sharing scheme in the coming days and send it in writing to the Investment Board’s office with recommendations.

The discussion was attended by Investment Board Chief Executive Officer Sushil Gyawali, Sankhuwasabha District District Coordination Committee Chief Suman Shakya, Chief District Officer Sirjana Thapaliya, Investment Board Joint Secretary Baburaj Adhikari, Chichila Rural Municipality Chairman Pasang Nurbu Sherpa, Makalu Rural Municipality Chairman Ongdi Tshiring Sherpa, Wang Chedar Lama, Khandbari Municipality Deputy Mayor Maheshwora Shrestha (Bajracharya), Assistant Chief District Officer Mohanmani Ghimire, SAPDC Chief Executive Officer Rajesh Chandel, among others.
