
Kathmandu. Universal Power Company Limited has announced plans to construct a run-of-river hydropower project on the Upper Inkhu Khola in Solukhumbu district. The proposed project is located in Sotang Rural Municipality–2 and Mapya Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality–6 of Solukhumbu, within Koshi Province.
According to the company, the project’s intake will be situated approximately 450 meters downstream on the left bank from the powerhouse of the proposed Super Inkhu Khola Hydropower Project. To connect the electricity generated by the project to the national transmission system, a transmission line of around 50 kilometers will be constructed, which is planned to be linked to the Sitalpati Substation.
The project’s total annual power generation capacity is estimated at 146.62 gigawatt-hours. Of this, 44.84 gigawatt-hours are expected to be generated during the dry season, while 101.78 gigawatt-hours will be produced during the monsoon season.
With a target to complete construction within four years, the total project cost is estimated at NPR 6.23 billion. The company stated that the per-megawatt cost of the project will be approximately NPR 257.5 million.
