Ten Hydropower Projects Granted Construction Permits by Mid of October

Kathmandu — The Department of Electricity Development has granted construction permits to a total of 10 hydropower projects in the first quarter of the current fiscal year. The combined capacity of these projects amounts to 241.50 megawatts.

According to the details provided by the department, it has so far issued construction permits to 266 projects. The total installed capacity of these projects amounts to 10,825 megawatts.

The department has issued construction permits for Lapa Khola (4.72 MW), Lower Barun (132 MW), Myagdi Khola B (12.50 MW), Lower Likhu Cascade (6 MW) by mid-October of the current fiscal year. It has also issued construction permits for Upper Melamchi (4.95 MW), Super Sabha Khola (9.55 MW), Lower Melamchi Khola (4.96 MW), Upper Seti I (13 MW), Hongu Khola (28.90 MW) and Induwa Khola (24.92 MW).

So far, the Department has granted survey licenses to a total of 185 projects. Likewise, 59 projects have applied for construction permits. The combined capacity of these proposed projects amounts to 10,532 megawatts.

Under solar projects, 12 projects have obtained construction permits, with a total capacity of 84 megawatts. Three additional solar projects have applied for construction permits, with a combined capacity of 15 megawatts. The department has stated that permits for 15 projects that had received construction approval but failed to make progress have been revoked.

Applications for construction permits from 11 projects that failed to complete the required procedures have also been canceled. Likewise, survey licenses for 118 projects have been revoked.
