SAARC Development Fund approves three projects

    The SDF(SAARC Development Fund) Board of Directors approved financing of one project under the Economic window and two projects under the Infrastructure widow of SDF at tahe 30th Board of Directors meeting on December 19 and 20 at New Delhi, India.

    A press release from SDF states that the projects include the purchase of an ATR aircraft for Drukair Corporation Limited under sovereign lending to the Government of Bhutan with participation of Bangladesh, India and Nepal; a 220 kV transmission line project for Nepal Electricity Authority under sovereign lending to Government of Nepal with participation of India, and a 37 MW Upper Trishuli Hydroelectric power plant for Hydroelectricity Investment and Development Company Limited in Nepal with participation of India.

    “The cumulative fund commitment for these three projects is USD 43 million. Overall the SDF fund commitment under its three windows stand at USD 148 million,” the press release states.

    SDF CEO Dr Motiwal is confident that these projects would help SDF achieve its development goals in the region and promote welfare and prosperity of the people in the SAARC region.
