KATHMANDU: The Cabinet today appointed Arjun Kumar Karki, joint-secretary at the Water and Energy Commission Secretariat, as executive director of Nepal Electricity Authority.
The government made the move a day after the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority arrested NEA Director Arjun Kumar Chauhan in connection with irregularities in the procurement of transformers.
“Karki will serve as NEA executive director until further notice,” said Minister for Information and Communications Madhav Paudel. This is Karki’s second stint as the top NEA official. Girija Prasad Koirala-led government had appointed him as executive director of the state power monopoly in 2006.
Last week, CIAA had filed a corruption case at the Special Court against then NEA executive director Rameshwor Yadav, leading to his automatic suspension. Since then, Chauhan had been heading the NEA.
CIAA plans to file a graft case against Chauhan as well, sources at the anti-corruption body said.
