On-site inspection of Tanahu Hydropower Project by the Prime Minister

Jhaputar (Tanahu) 24 March 2022. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has inspected the 140 MW Tanahu Hydropower Project under construction in Tanahu.

Prime Minister Deuba on Thursday inspected the construction site of the first package including the dam and the underground power house under construction. Deuba instructed the locals to help to complete the construction work of the project.

Kiran Kumar Shrestha, managing director of Tanahu Hydropower Ltd., the promoter of the project, informed about the progress being made in the construction work. Shrestha said that the overall construction progress of the project is 28 percent.

Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security Krishna Kumar Shrestha, Chief Minister of Gandaki Krishnachandra Nepali Pokhrel, Nepali Congress leader Ram Chandra Poudel and others participated in the inspection visit.

The main work of Tanahu Hydropower Project has been divided into three packages and construction has been moved forward. The first package of the project includes construction of 140 meter high dam by Song Da Corporation, Vietnam-Kalika Construction (PR) Ltd. Nepal J. V. is doing. Under this, the structure required to divert the river for the construction of the main dam, access road to the upper part of the dam site is being constructed.

Sino Hydro Corporation, China is constructing the second package of the project including tunnel, construction of power house and supply, connection and operation of hydromechanical and electromechanical equipment. The work of digging underground power house has reached the final stage. The main tunnel of 1418 meters long is being dug. About 300 meters of main tunnel has been dug so far.
KEC International, India is constructing 220 KV double circuit transmission line from Damauli to Bharatpur in Chitwan under the third package of the project. Out of 94 towers of the transmission line, foundations of 41 towers have been laid and 20 have been erected.

The project is also working on electrification in Tanahun under the Rural Electrification Program.
The overall construction of the project is targeted to be completed by June 2083 BS. The total cost of the company’s capital structure and financial management project (including transmission line, rural electrification and construction period interest) is US ५० 505 million, ADB 150 million, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) 184 million and European Investment Bank 80 million. 5 million and the Government of Nepal / Nepal Electricity Authority has been financed 86 million dollars.
