Solar Power Generation Capacity Increased: 50 MW in Hilly Areas, 40 MW in Terai

Kathmandu – The government has amended the “Environment Protection Regulations 2077” (2020) to increase the capacity of electricity generation projects using solar energy.

Previously, solar energy projects were allowed to operate with a capacity of 10 megawatts. The amended regulations now permit projects with a capacity of 50 megawatts in hilly areas and 40 megawatts in the Terai region.

The amended regulations state, “Electricity generation projects using solar energy with a capacity of more than 50 megawatts in hilly areas and more than 40 megawatts in the Terai region shall be operated.”
