Nuclear energy omitted from PPP bill

KATHMANDU, March 14: Parliament’s Finance Committee has omitted nuclear energy project from the list of projects to be developed under public private partnership.

Nuclear energy project was listed among infrastructure projects in the Public Private Partnership and Investment Bill 2019 tabled by the government in the parliament.

But Tuesday’s Finance Committee meeting omitted the project stating that it was not possible immediately. “The project has been omitted with a thought that it is impossible in our present context.

It shall be inserted when necessary,” said Surendra Aryal, secretary of the Finance Committee. The committee completed clause-wise discussion on the bill on Tuesday.
