Kathmandu: The Nepal Army successfully rescued 350 workers and local residents trapped inside the tunnel of the Upper Trishuli Hydropower Project on Thursday evening following the devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa.
The rescue operation was carried out under extremely risky conditions amid adverse weather and the powerful flood current. More than 100 people are still believed to be trapped inside the tunnel. Nepal Army teams are continuing efforts to bring them out safely.
For the complex and high-risk tunnel rescue mission, a military team from the No. 1 Second Movement Tactical Headquarters (Trishuli), led by Jamdar Bhaktajan Basnet, has been deployed around the clock.
Meanwhile, the Nepal Army has continued rescue operations in other remote areas of Rasuwa facing high flood risk. A 1/5 team from the CQRT Dhunche Barracks, under the command of Lieutenant Abhishek Shahi, safely evacuated an additional 533 civilians from various locations in Syafrubesi, Timure, Mailung, Thulo Haku, and Hakubesi.
According to the Nepal Army, a total of 883 local residents and workers were rescued from different flood-affected areas of Rasuwa on Thursday.
Despite the high risks, army personnel involved in the operation have been conducting the rescue mission with dedication and urgency. Efforts are ongoing to safely evacuate those who remain trapped inside the tunnel.
