Kathmandu — Considering the possible risks of heavy rainfall, floods, and landslides, the Nepal Electricity Authority has adopted a high level of alertness to protect electrical infrastructure.

Employees have been kept on standby to prevent damage to electrical infrastructure and to promptly restore power lines in case of service disruption.

According to the Authority’s Managing Director, Manoj Silwal, essential precautionary measures have been taken in advance, as substations, power plants, transmission lines, and distribution systems are most likely to be affected during disasters.

As there is a possibility of flooding in the dam area of the power plant, previously three employees were assigned per shift to operate the gates,” he said. “Now, that number has been increased to six.”

He added that pumps have been kept ready to drain water in case substations are submerged. Transmission line towers located in areas at risk of landslides have been covered with tarpaulins.

The Authority stated that arrangements have been made to immediately deploy technical teams for repair work if power service is disrupted.

Managing Director Silwal said that once consumers inform the relevant distribution center, the “No Light” service, helpdesk, or hotline number 1150, arrangements have been made to dispatch a repair team immediately.
