Kathmandu, October 8 — A courtesy meeting was held between Kulman Ghising, Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development, and a team led by Kyoko Yokosuka, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for Nepal.

In the meeting held at the Ministry of Urban Development in Singha Durbar, discussions were held on the assistance that UNDP can provide for elections, the support currently being provided in areas such as energy and climate change, and the implementation status of ongoing projects.

Providing information that the government is preparing to give Nepalis living abroad the opportunity to vote for employment-related purposes, Minister Ghising requested necessary support to adopt the online voting technology used in other countries in Nepal as well.

He requested necessary support in areas such as mitigating the impacts of climate change, creating employment in rural areas through small and medium-sized industries, studying high-risk glaciers, disaster early warning systems and preparedness, replacing fossil-fuel-powered vehicles and traditional household energy with electric energy, promoting the use of electricity in energy-intensive industries, and reducing carbon emissions by replacing coal used in brick kilns with electric energy.

On behalf of UNDP, it was stated that support would be provided for assistance in elections and initiatives to secure financial aid for Nepal from the Climate Fund, among other areas of support.
