Kathmandu — A meeting was held between Nepal’s Minister of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, and India’s Minister of Jal Shakti, C.R. Patil.
Minister Khadka, who arrived in New Delhi, India, to participate in the ‘India Energy Week 2025,’ held a meeting with his Indian counterpart, Patil, at Shram Shakti Bhavan in New Delhi today.
During the meeting, an agreement was made to complete the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the Pancheswar Multipurpose Project soon and to advance the project. This was informed by Praval Adhikari, a senior energy expert from the Ministry of Energy. In the course of the discussion, it was mentioned that the construction of the link canal from Tanakpur to the Nepal-India border has been completed, and the operational procedures for its functioning will soon be finalized. Additionally, an agreement has been reached to release water as per the Mahakali Treaty.
Similarly, discussions were held to convene a joint committee meeting on flood and inundation management from March 22 to 24. The relevant authorities will carry out formal correspondence for this purpose.
Similarly, an agreement was reached to advance discussions on the DPR of the Saptakoshi Multipurpose Project through bilateral meetings. Energy Minister Khadka recalled that the meeting and discussions held on November 5 had further encouraged progress in important initiatives in the water resources sector through cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, India’s Minister of Jal Shakti, Patil, expressed that the Indian government is positive about finalizing the DPR of the Pancheswar project soon and advancing the project at the earliest.
The meeting was attended by Minister Khadka, along with the Ministry’s Secretary Suresh Acharya, senior energy expert Praval Adhikari, the Ministry’s Joint Secretary Sandip Kumar Dev, and Minister Khadka’s economic advisor Amit Shrestha, as well as high-ranking Indian officials.
