The Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee, under the Ministry of Urban Development, will install a modern CCTV surveillance system and high-mast smart lighting system in the Gokarna–Balkhu section of the Bagmati River corridor to effectively control the increasing problems of waste management, unauthorized activities, and security challenges.

The committee has already invited tenders to select construction contractors for installing the lights and CCTV. If garbage is dumped in the river or on the riverbanks, it will be monitored through the CCTV system.

A total of 120 advanced cameras—resistant to temperature, dust, and water and capable of operating both day and night—will be installed, with the server and monitoring unit located at the Kathmandu Valley Police Office. To illuminate dark areas and create a safe and organized environment, 567 smart street lights, 48 floodlights, and 6 high-mast floodlights will be installed.

The installation of CCTV and lights will also support the ongoing Bagmati Cleanliness Mega Campaign. After the installation of CCTV and lighting, the goal is to enhance security and monitoring in the area, prevent criminal and disorderly activities, and improve nighttime illumination, thereby making the overall environment safer and more organized.
