Kathmandu, October 8, 2026. Government offices can now pay their electricity bills through digital means. Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and the Financial Comptroller General Office (FCGO) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to implement a system for the electronic payment of electricity bills consumed by government agencies.
The electricity bills of government offices will be paid electronically following the interconnection between the FCGO’s Integrated Public Financial Management Service and the NEA’s institutional customer payment system.
The interconnection between the two systems is an important step toward promoting digital payments and modernizing and making public financial management and electricity bill collection systems more efficient. It is expected to strengthen financial and information-system coordination among government agencies, the FCGO and the NEA, while contributing to the promotion of the digital economy and cashless and checkless transactions.
NEA Managing Director Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha said the new arrangement would eliminate the need for government agencies to use checks and cash to pay electricity bills, enabling them to make payments conveniently, securely and transparently.
“This arrangement will make a significant contribution to ensuring timely payment of electricity bills, reducing outstanding dues and late-payment charges, and making the bill collection process more effective,” Managing Director Shrestha said.
He said payment management would also become more systematic as details of the electricity bill liabilities of government agencies would be received on time.
The arrangement will also reduce the need for government agencies to withdraw and hold large sums of money in advance. Since payments can be made based on actual electricity consumption, it will also make financial management easier for government agencies.
