Government Designates 16 Irrigation and Water Resource Projects as National Priorities

Kathmandu — The government has declared 16 projects under the water resources and irrigation sector as national priority projects.

According to the notice published in the Nepal Gazette, the Babai Irrigation Project, Bheri Babai Diversion Multipurpose Project, Sunkoshi Marin Diversion Multipurpose Project, Sikta Irrigation Project, and Mahakali Irrigation Project (Phase III) have been listed as national priority projects.

The notice further states that the Praganna and Badkapath Irrigation Project, Sunsari Morang Irrigation Project (Phase III), Irrigation and Water Resources Management Project, and the Large Dang Valley Irrigation Project are also listed as national priority projects.

Similarly, the Water Resources Conservation Project (Rupatal, Nagmati, and Dhap Dam) and the Karnali–West Rapti and Narayani River Management Projects have also been included as national priority projects.

Likewise, the government has also included energy development and hydropower generation, transmission, and distribution projects—implemented either by the Government of Nepal or by private developers—under the category of national priority projects.
