
Kathmandu. Flooding in the Budhi Gandaki River has washed away the construction camp of the 341 MW Budhi Gandaki Hydropower Project, which is under construction in Salleri, Ward No. 3 of Chumnubri Rural Municipality in Gorkha district. Preliminary reports indicate that some equipment was also swept away along with the camp.
The semi-reservoir hydropower project is estimated to cost around NPR 70 billion.
The flooding in the Budhi Gandaki River, which flows through Chumnubri Rural Municipality in Gorkha, has swept away 35 houses in Paiyu and Bagar villages. The flood also washed away a motorable bridge connecting Soti and Manbu in Aarughat Rural Municipality.
On Sunday morning, a flood originating from the Ungel Khola in Chumnubri Rural Municipality was accompanied by a landslide in Syar Khola. Preliminary reports suggest that the landslide blocked the flow of water in Syar Khola, causing a sudden surge of floodwater that subsequently flowed into the Budhi Gandaki River.
