Gorakha, Dec. 11:
Construction works of the Daraundi A Hydroelectricity Project has taken momentum. The six-megawatt-capacity project is being constructed on the Daraundi River in Gorakha district.
The project has begun construction of the in-take structure, the office camp and the sedimentation site.
Project Director Padam Gurung said that the project would be completed within one and half years. “Works related to de-sanding and crushing are underway. The construction works are in progress and we plan to complete the construction within a year,” he added. Kalika Construction began construction of the Daraundi A small hydropower project since July.
It is stated that Gorakha district would be free from the present long hours of power cuts (load-shedding) once the Daraundi A hydropower project starts generating electricity. The construction company estimates the total cost of the project to reach Rs. 850 million.
Some 200 people are at work on constructing the project at present. This would be the only hydroelectricity project with the highest capacity. So far the total power generation from different micro hydropower projects in the district is 2, 500 kilowatts. RSS
