POWERGRID, India’s premier transmission utility, has officially commissioned the “Transmission System for Power Evacuation from Arun-3 (900 MW) HEP, Nepal – Indian Portion” project. The system became operational on 3rd September 2023, enhancing cross-border energy collaboration and supporting sustainable power evacuation from Nepal to India.

The project, executed by M/s SAPDC, aligns with the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) regulations, particularly Regulation 5(2) of the CERC (Terms and Conditions of Tariff) Regulations, 2019, and as referenced in CERC Order 210/TT/2024 dated 10 March 2026.

This strategic initiative reinforces India’s commitment to strengthening regional energy connectivity and optimizing renewable energy transmission. The new transmission system ensures efficient power evacuation from Arun-3 HEP, a 900 MW hydroelectric project in Nepal, contributing significantly to the grid stability in northern India.
