The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Tuesday arrested 10 officials of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), including its executive director Rameshor Yadav, on corruption charges.
The 10 officials have been arrested to investigate the case of purchasing low quality transformers, said a CIAA statement issued Tuesday.
The other 9 arrested officials were: planning chief Krishna Bahadur Thapa, engineer Pramod Rijal, former general manager Chiranjibi Sharma Poudel, former executive director Jibendra Jha, former deputy executive director Tikaram BC, deputy director of accounts Krishna Bahadur KC, accounts officer Sushil Khanal, former coordinator of electricity development project Mahesh Prasad Acharya and an employee of 11th level Deb Sharma Poudel.
The CIAA says the low quality transformers, amounting to around 5,000, were purchased especially from 2063 to 2068 BS. Due to the low quality transformers, NEA had to face severe problem during electricity transmission, according to CIAA.
The CIAA has already arrested five NEA officials a few days back on the same charges.
