Chamelia_workAbout 95 per cent construction works of the 30-MW Chameliya Hydropower project located in the Far Western Development Region of Nepal has been completed so far.

According to China Gezhouba Group Corporation, the civil contractor of the project, more than 95 per cent works of the project has been completed so far despite fragile geological condition, which has destroyed the headrace tunnel badly.

“Some portion of the headrace tunnel has been squeezing, which requires dismantling and installing of a new support system with higher bearing capacity,” the company claimed in a press statement on Thursday.

In the squeezed area, landslide and mud-rock flow are occurring frequently.

The civil contractor CGGC is working to correct the faulty portion of the tunnel with its technical skills even in difficult and dangerous condition, the statement read.

The project was halted for some time in September this year owing to big dispute between Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and Korea Hydro and Nuclear Project (KHNP). The project is funded by the government.
