Myagdi — The 22.5-megawatt Upper Thulokhola Hydropower Project, located in Raghuganga Rural Municipality–7 of Myagdi, has reached its final stage of construction.
The project, promoted by Thulokhola Hydropower Limited and initiated three years ago, has achieved 90 percent physical progress. Project chief Lok Bahadur Nayak stated that the dam, powerhouse, and pipeline installations have been completed, and the equipment installation at the powerhouse and the construction of the transmission line are in their final stages.
“The schedule to start test production by Baisakh 2082 (April–May 2025) has been affected due to the disruption caused by the upgrading of the road connecting Beni to the project site,” he said. “The delay in equipment installation occurred because transportation was halted, as the powerhouse is located in a geographically remote area.”
From Fedhi to Bandi, 14 towers are being constructed for a 5-kilometer-long, 132 kV transmission line, which is currently under construction. From Bandi, the electricity from the project will be integrated into the national grid through collaboration with the Thulokhola and Chimkhola–Mangale–Rahughat hydropower projects, using the 220 kV Dana–Khurkot transmission line via Tilkenichaur.A dam, desander (a settling basin for water), a 2,900-meter main pipeline, and a 300-meter surge shaft pipeline have been installed at Sugurthala, while the powerhouse has been constructed at the base (Fedhi). Construction of the switchyard has also begun within the powerhouse premises.
Dev Urja Construction is the contractor for civil and hydromechanical works, while BFL Bangalore is responsible for the electromechanical components. The project, estimated to cost 3 billion rupees, is being financed with 70 percent debt investment from Citizens Bank and Machhapuchchhre Bank. Of the remaining investment, 10 percent will come from the promoter, and 20 percent will be raised by issuing shares to the general public.
