Taplejung — A ‘breakthrough’ has been achieved in the tunnel route of the 50 MW capacity United Mewa Hydropower Project, which is under construction in Meringden and Mikwakhola Rural Municipalities. The 4,800-meter-long tunnel route has been completed.
In 25 months since the work began, most of the infrastructure-related work, including the tunnel route, has been completed. With this, 90 percent of the project has been finished, according to Project In-charge Ashish Kedem.
Water will flow through this tunnel. Since the tunnel for diverting water has already been constructed, the need for using explosives in the project is now over, Kedem stated. He also mentioned that the work on the circuits and other related tasks will now be accelerated.
The project, which aims to start production within this year, had obtained production approval from the Department of Electricity Development on 15th Shrawan, 2074 (July 30, 2017). The project has also stated that it is preparing to issue an IPO to raise investment for the electricity sector.
The electricity produced will be connected to the Nepal Electricity Authority’s substation located at Dhungesanghu in Mewakhola Rural Municipality-1, according to Project Chief Om Prakash Chaudhary. From Dhungesanghu, the electricity will be transmitted to Basantpur and then connected to the national transmission line.
