KATHMANDU, Dec 16:A technical team of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), the developer of West Seti Hydropower Project, has completed field study at the project site in Doti.
Engineers of Shanghai Investigation, Design & Research Institute (SIDRI), an affiliate of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), studied hydrological conditions in the project site and the areas to be occupied by the main engineering facilities such as powerhouse, intake and dam.
According to a statement issued by SIDRI, the team also collected flood records and hydrological conditions of the river’s course. It will prepare a database of the number of residents in the reservoir area and their living standard, among others.
Through the study, the technicians learnt about ambient conditions, topography and landform, transportation, distributions of villages, geological features, conditions of plant layout, human and cultural environment in the project area, according to the statement.
The government had signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of the project with China Three Gorges Corporation in 2012.
The team of over a dozen technicians also held discussions with local leaders and inquired about the possibility of sourcing construction materials locally. It will submit its report to the Investment Board Nepal and CTG by the end of January.
IBN officials say the study report will prepare a base for starting negotiation for development of the project.
