KATHMANDU, Jan 3: The National Transmission Grid Company (NTGC) has announced a collaborative effort with the private sector to construct the Lamabagar-Barhabise 220 kV transmission line. This ambitious project, estimated to cost around Rs 5 billion, aims to bolster power transmission in the Lapche Khola and Rolwaling Khola corridors.

In a public notice, NTGC has invited expressions of interest from hydropower companies operating in these regions. Interested companies have a 15-day window to submit their applications, which must include a hydropower survey and production permit.

The project encompasses the construction of a 43.7-kilometer transmission line and a substation. Netra Prasad Gyawali, CEO of NTGC, emphasized that a memorandum of understanding will be signed with the selected companies, and a dedicated subsidiary will be established to oversee the project’s execution.

This is not NTGC’s first venture involving private sector collaboration. The company had previously engaged private players for the ongoing construction of the Tamor-Dhungesanghu 220 kV transmission line, reflecting its commitment to leveraging private sector expertise in critical infrastructure projects.
