Powering Progress: 80% of Sankhuwasabha Households Now Electrified

Sankhuwasabha. Electricity service has reached 80 percent of households in the mountainous district of Sankhuwasabha. In a stakeholder discussion program held today in Khandbari, Rajiv Singh, head of the Nepal Electricity Authority’s regional office in Biratnagar, informed that preparations are underway to provide electricity to the remaining 20 percent of households soon.

Meanwhile, the Electricity Authority of Sankhuwasabha has recovered outstanding dues of Rs. 5.9 million from 542 consumers who had not paid their electricity bills. After launching a campaign to disconnect the electricity supply of non-paying consumers in and around the district headquarters of Khandbari and the Chainpur market area, the authority succeeded in collecting the amount within a period of 10 months, said Satrudhan Yadav, head of the Khandbari distribution center.

Similarly, Yadav informed that an additional six hundred thousand rupees were recovered from blacklisted customers. According to the Authority, there are currently more than 28,732 electricity consumers in Sankhuwasabha. The Authority stated that Rs. 241.9 million was collected in revenue from electricity tariffs in the previous fiscal year.
