Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) seeks bids for powerhouse auxiliary system parts for rehabilitation of the 144-MW Kali Gandaki A hydroelectric project on the Kali Gandaki River in western Nepal. A pre-bid conference is set December 10, with bids due December 31.

NEA took bids in April for turbine parts and repair, a trash rake and a powerhouse auxiliary system for Kali Gandaki A. It recruited consultants last year to design and supervise the project’s rehabilitation. The World Bank approved US$89.2 million to supportNepal’s Energy Crisis Management Action Plan, including rehabilitation of Kali Gandaki A and expansion of small hydropower plants.

Nepal’s King Gyanendra inaugurated Kali Gandaki A in 2004 in Syangja District, about 200 kilometers west of Kathmandu. Requiring three years, rehabilitation of Kali Gandaki A is to involve dam safety, civil and electro-mechanical works, and automation and controls.

NEA now seeks bids for Contract KGAHPPRP/G/ICB-5-R, supply and delivery of powerhouse auxiliary system. The contract includes Lot 2, drainage, dewatering and cooling system spare parts; Lot 6, spare parts for control and protection system; and Lot 8, additional required spare parts for auxiliary system.

Bid documents may be obtained until December 29 from the address below for 15,000 rupees or US$155. Payment is to be deposited in the NEA, Generation Account No. 610162 at Nepal Rastra Bank, Thapathali, Kathmandu, or in the form of a bank draft drawn in favor of “Kaligandaki A Hydropower Plant Rehabilitation Project (KGAHPPRP).” Foreign bidders requesting delivery of documents by courier should submit an additional fee of US$300 in the form of an additional bank draft.

Bidding documents also are available on the NEA Internet site, www.nea.org.np. A pre-bid conference is scheduled at 11 a.m. December 10 at the project office in Kathmandu.

Bids are due by noon December 31 to the address below.
