Kathmandu: Nepal Electricity Authority Managing Director Hitendra Dev Shakya has stated that the Authority’s main focus will now be on ensuring quality, reliable, and uninterrupted electricity supply. Speaking during inspections of distribution centers and substations while visiting Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces under the “Campaign to Honor Outstanding Customers of Provincial Offices,” Shakya expressed this view.

At a program held in Dhangadhi, he noted that after the end of load shedding, it is no longer sufficient to merely supply electricity. “Earlier there was load shedding, and the situation was such that electricity had to be supplied by any means,” he said. “Now the quality of electricity is important. It should not keep tripping on and off; there is a need for reliable and stable power.”

Speaking at the Outstanding Customer Recognition Program, he said that electricity consumers should be viewed not merely as a source of revenue for the Authority, but as the backbone of the national economy.

Industrialists use electricity as a raw material to add four to five times more value,” he said. “Therefore, consumers are important not only for our revenue but also for the country’s economy, employment, and production.

Shakya noted that quality and uninterrupted electricity supply is even more essential for industrialists. “When electricity goes out even once, industrialists are forced to run generators or risk losing production altogether,” he said. “Therefore, voltage stability and continuity are crucial for industries.

Stating that the Authority has already moved forward after obtaining the license for the construction of the Attariya–Dhangadhi transmission line to make electricity supply in the Sudurpaschim region more reliable, he expressed confidence that in the coming days the Authority will be in a position to meet the demand of large industries.

This transmission line is very important for this region,” he said. “Other projects are also coming up in Sudurpaschim, so the quality of electricity here will further improve.”

During the inspection visit, Shakya also observed the Kohalpur–Surkhet–Dailekh 132 kV transmission line project, as well as the Distribution and Customer Service Directorate of Karnali Province. The Authority stated that he directed officials to move forward in a planned and scheduled manner to address the electricity-related problems seen in the Himalayan and hilly districts.

The Authority has stated that, prioritizing quality electricity supply, industrial promotion, and customer satisfaction, it will place strong emphasis on strengthening the distribution system in the coming days.
