Kathmandu, Sept. 16: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has planned to implement the automated meter reading (AMR) system.
“Plans are there to make available the payment and billing information through internet so that the consumers get online information.
This system will also bring the practice of visiting the each house for meter reading to an end,” said Kul Man Ghising, Managing Director of NEA.
With the instillation of smart meter, the NEA can cut line of those who do not clear their tariff.
Unveiling future plans of the NEA, Ghising said that they had planned to digitalise the NEA by using the modern information technology in the internal system and service delivery.
“Under the good governance plans, we will strictly implement the corporate good governance. The activities of the authority would be more responsible, transparent and accountability by applying the zero tolerance policy in corruption control,” he said at a press conference, Sunday.
According to him, the NEA would pay special attention for increasing the domestic consumption of power and export as well for the proper utilisation of power generation during the rainy season. Stating that the NEA had focused only for the ending the load shedding in the past, he said that now the NEA will carry out the expansion and improvement of transmission lines and substations keeping the consumer interest in its center.
“The NEA is committed to provide secured, regular, sustainable and qualitative power supply to the consumers. We are dedicated to support the government plans to access of power to all households within 2002/23,” Ghising added.
He said that NEA would connect Rukum Purba, Kalikot, Jumla, Bajura in national grid during the current fiscal year.
The NEA would promote for the utilisation of electric equipments including electricity stove and also encourage for the establishment of charging station for electricity vehicles, he said. The cost for the use of electric stoves will be lower by 30 per cent compared to the use of cooking gas, he said.
Likewise, cost for the use of electricity vehicles is significantly lower than the petrol, he said, adding that the per kilometer cost for the electric vehicles is stood at Rs. 1.5 while fuel vehicles will stood at Rs. 7 per kilometer.
He said that everyone can install the charging station where they can take up to 20 per cent additional for charging of the NEA’s cost. NEA is planning to install around 50-60 charging station across the country.
Stating that the NEA would give continuity to control technical and non-technical leakage, he said that they have planned to reduce leakage to 12 per cent during the current fiscal year.
Under the power generation, the NEA has planned to carry out the construction of Dudhkoshi Hydropower Project (635 MW) by completing the financial closure.
Likewise, it would forward other hydropower projects, including Uttarganga Reservoir (825 MW), Chainpur Seti (210 MW) and other project capacity of 425 MW under the Chilime.
He said that they would add around 1,000 MW power in the system from Tamakoshi (456 MW), Rasuwagadhi (111 MW), Sanjen (14.8 MW) and private sectors’ projects. He said that they would bring substations of 400 kv constructing in Dhalkabar by completing the construction within the current fiscal year.
