KATHMANDU, May 24: Hitendra Dev Shakya, Managing Director (MD) of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), recently toured Koshi Province.

In Biratnagar, he met with distribution center chiefs under the Koshi Regional Office, heads of the Grid Division, and project leaders operating in the eastern region. He instructed them to provide the public with fast, reliable, and quality electricity, prioritize customer satisfaction, and deliver complaint-free services.

Shakya inspected the Duhabi Grid, Inaruwa Substation, the under-construction Barju Substation and distribution centers in Biratnagar, Rangeli and Itahari. He heard employees’ grievances and urged them to maintain high discipline, work according to customer needs, and carry out their tasks safely to prevent electrical accidents.

At a discussion with industrialists and traders in Biratnagar, representatives from industry and trade organizations highlighted the complementary relationship between the NEA and consumers. They expressed their expectation for respectful service and committed to resolving disputes related to dedicated and trunk lines, while urging the Authority to show fair treatment.

After engaging extensively with industrialists, traders, and journalists, Shakya emphasized the urgent need to manage electricity regularly, reliably, affordably, and sustainably. He pledged to develop and implement short-term, medium-term, and long-term plans accordingly.

He also outlined his vision to accelerate the construction of large reservoir-based projects, improve transmission and distribution systems, maximize domestic electricity consumption, and export surplus electricity to boost Nepal’s prosperity.

During the event, Managing Director Shakya honored the top ten regional consumers in Koshi Province who achieved the highest electricity consumption and consistently paid their bills last year.
