Kathmandu — Minister for Urban Development Kulman Ghising has directed that the under-construction Federal Parliament Building within the Singha Durbar premises be completed within the scheduled timeframe.
After inspecting the construction site on Saturday, he instructed the contractor company to prepare a daily work plan and expedite the construction work accordingly.
Minister Ghising said, “While extending the deadline for the fifth time, the contractor has committed to completing the construction by December 31 . Serious efforts must be made to complete the work within that timeframe.”
During the Gen-Z protests, the Federal Parliament Building at New Baneshwor sustained damage. As a result, it has become difficult to hold National Assembly meetings.
“The old parliament building was damaged by fire during the Gen-Z demonstrations. The National Assembly meetings need to be conducted,” he said. “After the upcoming elections, sessions of the House of Representatives will also need to be held. It will take time to make the damaged parliament building functional again, so the new parliament building must be completed as soon as possible.”
In this context, the contractor’s representative stated that 87 percent of the work has been completed so far, and finishing work is currently underway inside the building. They mentioned that the construction had been slightly delayed due to the need to import certain construction materials from abroad, but assured that the remaining work would be completed by December 31.
A new Parliament Building is being constructed on an area of 8 acres within the Singha Durbar premises.
