    LAMJUNG:

Middle Marsyangdi PwerhouseThe Mid-Marsyangdi hydropower project will shut for repair work from tomorrow, halting power generation at the project for nine days.

Yesterday, the project issued a notice informing about halt in power generation during the repair of its reservoir from tomorrow. It cautioned the people living near the riverfront about possible rise in the water level in course of maintenance.

Power generation from the 70MW run-of-the-river project, whose reservoir is based at Phaliyasanghu in Udipur of Lamjung, has reduced by almost half now. “There’s not much snow in the mountains and tributaries have also dried, so discharge in the Marsyangdi has receded,” said the project’s assistant manager Bikash Raghubanshi, adding that the project can generate only 35 MW in the dry season.

Power outages have taken a toll on the people of Lamjung, which was declared a load-shedding-free district. Raghubanshi attributed the power cuts to a faulty transformer, adding that the problem will be gone once it is repaired.
