HETAUDA: Makawanpur locals halted the Kulekhani Hydro Electricity Project work today.
They stopped the project work putting forward a 10-point demand including employment to the locals, training on expertise, agricultural development programmes, training women on knitting, compensation to the blast victims, drinking water facility, village road construction among others.
Surya Bahadur Gole, a local of Shikharbas said the Chinese Sino Hydro project contractor has brought workers from China instead of employing the locals.
“The project contractor’s indifferent attitude towards the locals has affected more than 600 houses,” they said.
The project chief, Madhusudan Malla said nearly 50 per cent of the 14-megawatt project has been completed. The construction will be completed by 2070 BS with the completion of 36-metre long tunnel, he said.
Malla said they were ready to fulfill the workers’ demands. He urged them to come forward for dialogue.
