Minister for Energy Radha Gyawali said the power cut would be ended within the next three years.

Speaking in a programme organised by Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Employees Union Janakpur-Sagarmatha Regional Committee on Thursday, she said the government has already started works with the target of ending power cuts in the coming three years.

Minister Gyawali said that works on reservoir-type big and medium scale hydroelectricity projects have been completed and the works regarding the remaining projects would be completed in the coming years, referring to the initiatives being taken to removing the legal hurdles in energy development.

She also said preparations are being made to bring the ‘People’s Electricity, People’s Investment’ programme to create the feeling among the people that NEA is theirs.

The Energy Minister announced that the government was committed to setting up two electricity repairs centres – one in Nepalgunj and one east of Lahan – in the coming days in a bid to resolving the problem of power supply seen in the Tarai-Madhes as the NEA had only one repair centre in Hetauda alone.
