Kathmandu. According to the results of the Nepal Multiple Indicator Survey 2024/25 released by the National Statistics Office, access to electricity services in Nepal has expanded significantly. The survey shows that 96.7 percent of households across the country now have access to continuous electricity.
Looking at provincial figures, Gandaki Province has the highest level of electricity access at 99.5 percent, while Karnali Province has the lowest, with electricity reaching only 80.8 percent of households. This indicates that provincial disparities in energy access still persist.
Along with the expansion of electricity, improvements have also been seen in information and communication services. According to the survey, 95 percent of households have access to either fixed-line or mobile telephone services. Similarly, 82 percent of households are using devices with internet access, reflecting progress in digital connectivity.
The report highlights that improved energy access has had a direct impact on health, education, and living standards. However, challenges related to drinking water and sanitation still remain. Although 98.2 percent of the population uses improved drinking water sources, the report notes that bacteria were found in the drinking water of 60.4 percent of households.
According to the National Statistics Office, this Multiple Indicator Survey will provide an important foundation for policy formulation related to energy, health, education, nutrition, and infrastructure development, as well as for monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
