Statkraft and Eviny have sold their stakes in Nepal’s Himal Power Limited (HPL) to their local partner Butwal Power Company (BPC), transferring full ownership of the company to BPC.
The agreement covers Statkraft’s 57% and Eviny’s 26% shareholdings. With the deal, BPC now owns 100% of HPL, which operates the 60MW Khimti I hydropower plant. The plant began operations in 2000 and was Statkraft’s first hydropower project outside Norway.
The move is part of Statkraft’s strategy to exit South Asia and concentrate on markets in Europe and South America.
Statkraft and Eviny are proud of the important contribution the Khimti plant has made to the Nepalese energy system for 25 years, delivering more than 9,000 GWh of energy with an excellent operational record and world class availability. We are very pleased that our long-term partner in Nepal, BPC, will continue operations and that they also consider the HPL employees as highly competent and valued for the continued operation of the plant,” said Tima Iyer Utne, Chair of the HPL Board from Statkraft.
