Kathmandu. Two hydropower projects promoted by Sanima Mai Hydropower Limited have resumed operations. The company stated that electricity generation from the Mai Hydropower Plant (22 MW) and the Mai Cascade Hydropower Plant (7 MW) in Ilam has restarted from February 22, depending on the year.

Both projects had been temporarily shut down due to floods and landslides in the Mai River following continuous rainfall on October 4 2025. The floods damaged structures within the headworks area of the projects, disrupting electricity production.

According to the company, repair and testing work on damaged structures, including the headrace culvert and the flushing chamber, have been successfully completed. After the necessary technical testing, both plants have been reconnected to the grid.

With the resumption of production, the company also announced that the previously declared special situation has been lifted. Following the return to operation, an additional 29 megawatts of electricity supply has once again been ensured in the national transmission system.
