Indian Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri today paid a courtesy call on Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Barsha Pam Pun at the ministry in Singha Durbar, Kathmandu.

The two discussed matters related to Nepal-India bilateral relations, according to a statement issued by the ministry’s secretariat.

During the meeting, Ambassador Puri informed that the southern neighbor was preparing to give momentum to Arun III and Pancheswor projects during Prime Minister KP Oli’s upcoming India visit.

Minister Pun conveyed that Nepal was interested in purchasing power from India at a discounted rate on the basis of competition among Indian suppliers. Nepal currently imports around 400MW electricity from India. Pun also requested Puri to support Nepal for the construction of Butwal-Gorakhpur 400kV cross-border transmission line, and said Pancheswor project featured high on the priority list of the government.

In his reply, Puri said the Indian government was positive towards Pun’s proposal.
