Vietnam Ranks 2nd in ASEAN with 87,600 MW Electricity Capacity

Vietnam has become the second largest in terms of generating capacity in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). This fact was announced by Vietnam Electricity (EVN), Vietnam’s state-owned power company.

According to EVN, the country’s total installed power capacity will reach about 87,600 megawatts by the end of 2025. This is an increase of about 6,400 megawatts compared to the previous year. The increase is mainly due to new energy sources such as hydropower, thermal power and renewable energy projects.

During the same period, Vietnam’s commercial electricity generation reached 28.7 million kWh, indicating that the country’s energy supply has continued to grow and has sufficient capacity to meet industrial and domestic needs.

Significant progress has also been made in the area of electricity access. Currently, 100 percent of communes (local levels) and 99.85 percent of households across the country are connected to the national electricity grid. This clearly demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring access to electricity in Vietnam and has provided access to energy facilities even to citizens in rural and remote areas.

Experts believe that this growth in Vietnam’s energy sector will contribute significantly to economic development, industrial expansion, and improving living standards. In addition, increased investment in renewable energy and smart grid technology is expected to make the country’s energy system sustainable and environmentally friendly.
