Upper Myagdi-1 Achieves Major Tunnel Breakthrough Milestone

MYAGDI, Sept. 10: The 35.5 MW Upper Myagdi-1 Hydropower Project has achieved a tunnel breakthrough from the adit to the dam section.

The project, promoted by Myagdi Hydropower Limited, connected the tunnel from the adit site at Chhahari in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-4 to the under-construction powerhouse at Bharwang in Malika Rural Municipality-7 on Wednesday.

Project Chief Jyoti Kumar KC said that the 2,506.39-meter tunnel connecting the adit to the dam has been successfully excavated.

Of the total 3,283.32-meter tunnel stretching from Chhahari to the dam site in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-4, 1,973 meters have been completed so far, he said.

KC added, “Work is underway with the aim of completing the remaining section of the tunnel within the next few months.”

He said overall physical progress of the project has reached 56 percent and that the project is expected to be completed within the next year.
