Kathmandu: The Lalbandi-Salempur 132 kV double-circuit transmission line, stretching from the Nawalpur Substation in Lalbandi Municipality-1, Sarlahi, to Chainpura in Chakraghatta Rural Municipality-7, has come into operation. The 132/33/11 kV substation constructed at Chainpura under the Lalbandi-Salempur 132 kV Transmission Line Project has also been commissioned.
The substation is equipped with two 132/33 kV power transformers, each with a capacity of 30 MVA, and one 33/11 kV power transformer with a capacity of 24 MVA. The substation has a total capacity of 84 MVA. Five 33 kV feeders and six 11 kV feeders have been connected to the substation for electricity distribution in the local areas.
With the transmission line and substation coming into operation, electricity supply in areas including Malangawa, Haripur, Haripurwa, Dumariya and Barahathwa of Sarlahi is expected to become more reliable and of better quality. The infrastructure is also expected to help reduce electricity losses and address problems such as low voltage and frequent power interruptions (tripping). It will further help manage the growing demand for electricity in the area and strengthen the overall supply system.
Nepal Electricity Authority Managing Director Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha said the authority has given high priority to providing customers with reliable and quality electricity service at adequate voltage levels. He said work to expand and strengthen transmission and distribution infrastructure is being carried out in a planned manner.
A contract worth Rs 1.1252 billion was signed in March 15 – April 13, 2023 for the construction of around 20 kilometers of transmission line and the substation. The contract came into effect in April 14 – May 14, 2023. The project was constructed with investment from the Government of Nepal and the Nepal Electricity Authority.
