Kathmandu: World Meteorological Day is being observed in Nepal today by organizing various programs under the slogan “Observing Today, Securing Tomorrow.”
The day has been celebrated since 1961 in commemoration of the establishment of the World Meteorological Organization in 1950.
On this occasion, discussions are being held on raising awareness about meteorology, the importance of forecasting systems, and measures to reduce climate-related risks.
Meteorologist Sujan Subedi from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology informed that programs have been planned focusing on enhancing awareness, highlighting the importance of forecasting systems, and identifying ways to minimize climate risks.
World Meteorological Day is observed every year on March 23.
On this occasion, awareness is promoted worldwide about the role of weather and climate services and their contribution to human life, agriculture, water resources, and disaster management.
