Voith Hydro inaugurates its new office at Kathmandu, Nepal

Kathmandu, Nepal: Voith Hydro is a global hydropower leader having full
range of Electromechanical equipment for hydropower projects from mini
and small hydro to currently largest possible capacity of 1000MW per unit).
Voith provides solutions for all types of hydro- power projects from low
head Kaplan and Bulb to Francis and high head Pelton machines including
Pump and Pump storage applications and handles completes scope of
Water to Wire. The company subscribes to the philosophy of bringing state
of the art global technologies & expertise to all parts of the world and yet
be a local player in order to serve its customers efficiently. Till date Voith
has supplied over 300,000 MW worldwide, 1/3rd of the total hydro capacity
in the world.

Towards this endeavor, Voith Hydro Pvt. Ltd completed yet another
milestone by opening its office in the capital city of the picturesque
Himalayan country, Nepal.

Voith has a long history of cooperation in Nepal starting from the year 1968
when it installed 3 units of 5.5 MW for Gandak HEP for Nepal Electric
Authority. This was followed by other projects including 4 units of 3 MW for
Trishuli HEP in year 1970, 2 units of 30 MW for Kulekhani No. 1 HEP in

year 1982, 3 units of 26 MW for Marsyangdi in year 1990 and 2 units of
37.9 MW for Middle Marsyangdi in 2008.

After the formal ceremony at the office in the morning to mark the occasion
of inauguration of its office, a get together was organized in the evening by
Voith which was attended by more than 70 esteemed guests – covering
customers, consultants, developers, bankers and other stake holders. The
guests were welcomed by Mr. Ravi Kalra, Managing Director & CEO of
Voith Hydro Pvt. Ltd.
Mr. Martin Andrae, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) from the parent
company, Voith Hydro Holding GmbH who had flown in especially for the
event, expressed his gratitude to all the guests for being part of this
momentous occasion.

While addressing the esteemed gathering Mr. Andrae said “ Nepal is a key
component of Voith’s focus in the future and the company believes in
being closer to its customer in order to serve them better”

Voith Group also celebrates its 150 th year of existence in this year, having
been founded in 1867 and continues to be one of the largest family owned
companies in Europe. Today, Voith Group has a sales turnover of over 4.3
Billion Euros and has presence in more than 60 countries with around
19,000 employees.

Hydropower is the biggest, oldest and most reliable form of renewable
energy generation and Voith Hydro has been a leading supplier of this
technology and is constantly refining and improving it.

Nepal is a country that has an abundant potential for hydropower and it is
a matter of time before it could become a leading hydropower generating
nation. Voith recognizes this and would like to contribute to and become a
part of this development.

Establishment of the branch office in Kathmandu, Nepal is a step to be
closer to the customers so as to be able to meet the needs and provide
services to the customer.

The Indian subsidiary, Voith Hydro Private Limited, is responsible for this
market of Nepal besides South East Asia. It draws upon the experience of
having executed the largest power plant of 1000 MW in India. It is currently
executing a number of projects in India, Nepal, Bhutan, SE Asia and Africa
besides supplying to all of Voith’s global locations.

In Nepal, currently, Voith Hydro is executing the prestigious projects of 3
units of 37 MW Rasuwagadhi, 3 units of 9 MW Dordi Khola, 3 units of 7.2
MW Lower Hewa Khola, 2 units of 6.8 MW Thapa Khola and 3 units of 14
MW Mistri Khola.
