GMR Group has acquired 80% stake in Himtal Hydropower Company Pvt. Ltd. which is developing the 600 MW Upper Marsyangdi Hydro Electric Project on the Marsyangdi River in Nepal
The plant is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2016 .

Himtal Hydro Power Company Pvt. Ltd. is developing ‘The Upper Marsyangdi-2 Hydroelectric Power’ project. This run-of-river type development is located in the districts of Lamjung and Manang, aiming to fully utilize the power potential of the Marsyangdi river.
The proposed location of the dam – utilizing a gross head of about 627.67 m – is just upstream of Tal village (Manang District), about 45 km upstream of Besisahar.

- 145 m long, 31 m high rockfill dam
- Discharge capacity of spillway: 4066 m³/second
- 9.2 km long, horseshoe-shaped headrace tunnel (diameter: 6 m)
- Underground power house with an installed capacity of 600 MW (four units of 150 MW each)
